Battle of Brightlingsea

27th and 28th Febuary 1995

Citizens, young and old, begin to voice their views over live exports. The Police are still attending the demonstrations in force and the residents still demonstrate. No real trouble, arrests are still being made, mainly for not walking fast enough in front of the live export lorries.

Sometimes the protests went all the way to the quay, where the sheep were loaded onto the ship. Other times the protest was stopped at the wharf gates by the Police. If they could the protestors would try to get to the quay to watch the sheep being put on the ship. There were always accusations of cruelty to the sheep while being loaded onto the ship.
